Section 144 imposed at Agartala

AGARTALA, Aug 23 (TIWN): With the failure of state police, Army has taken over the situation of Agartala.

Aiming to maintain peace, security and stability at Agartala West District Administration imposed section 144 around 500 meter area.

No person will be allowed to move in 500 meter area of Indo - Bangla international border since night 8 PM to 6 in the morning.

However the order will not be applicable to Army, Para -Military force and State Police who are engaged in maintaining law and order.

Besides the order will not be applicable who will have the valid permission from DM or SDM. The persons will be accused by section 188 of IPC who will disobey the order.

Whoever walks along the border side from night 8PM to morning 6 AM, armed with any deadly weapon, or with anything which are used as weapons of offence, shall be punished with imprison­ment of either description for a term which may extend to two years, or with fine, or with both under the rule of law.

However, Section 144 empowers the Magistrate to prohibit the unlawful assembly of more than 5 people in a group. This is especially imposed to stop the sudden outbreak of riots especially by a group of armed people having a common motive to disrupt public peace and tranquility.

West District Magistrate stated that this step is being imposed for the safety and development of the district in the coming days.

The state police personnel, Paramilitary force, West district police super, medical personnel deployed on special duty are excluded from the imposition of this law.
