AGARTALA, Aug 23 (TIWN): Pressing higher for Twipraland, IPFT on Tuesday organised a mammoth public gathering and mass rally on observance of “Twipraland” statehood demand day at Swami Vivekananda Stadium followed by a mass rally at Agartala.

Once again IPFT is trying to fan unrest in the State where ‘peace has returned after two decade long insurgency and ethnic turmoil.

The IPFT is acting as political mask of the banned outfit- NLFT.  The Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) came into being in the state under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution in 1987 to protect and safeguard the tribals who form one-third of the state's population.

All the major political parties in Tripura rejected the demand for a separate state, 'Twipra land' raised by Indigenous People's Front of Twipra (IPFT), a tribal-based party.

The IPFT, which first raised the demand for a separate state several years ago, has so far failed to garner support even from within the indigenous tribal people.

“We are now carrying out awareness and mass campaign programme among the tribals across the state to press for the demand for a separate state. Leaders of such movements seeking a separate state from other parts of the country are also supporting our demand”, said IPFT members.

IPFT is stick to a single demand for a separate state ‘Twipra Land’ with the sole aim to disturb Tribal-Bengali communal harmony prevailing since 1980s in Tripura.
