AGARTALA, Aug 23 (TIWN): Tripura’s sports department turned a den for corruption, more corrupt creatures occupying key posts like rapist Joint Director Panna Ahmed. On the basis of smuggling lobby’s support and Minister Shahid Chowdhury, rapist Panna Ahmed was appointed as Joint Director of Sports. With pressure from narcotics smugglers and CPI-M lobbies, Panna Ahmed was earlier appointed as SDM Sonamura in place of upright SDM Subhashis Das as over Rs 100 crores Ganja fields were destroyed. Now again appointment of Panna Ahmed as the joint director of Sports gives a clear indication that CM Manik Sarkar is playing a suspicious role in his promotion. Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar’s suspicious role behind promoting rapist Panna Ahmed as Joint Director of Sports, then CM’s direct role in shielding Minister Shahid Chowdhury’s criminal activities, whose wife not only directly involved with Sonamura’s dreaded smuggling rackets, also Shahid Chowdhury, Panna Ahmed’s relatives like Roman Mia, who is known as the Phensydyl smuggling king of Sonamura.The minister came under the scanner when the arms dealer, who was arrested in the state for anti-India activities, spilled the beans about his association with the Communist leader.

 Sahid Chowdhury, who was Food and Minority affairs Minister in the Left Front government, is alleged to have helped arms dealer Mamun Mia. Mamun Mia purportedly an agent of Pakistan's ISI, in getting permanent residential certificate (PRC) from the state government and an Indian passport.

 The Tripura police had ordered an inquiry into the alleged links between Mr Chowdhury and Mamun Mian alias Suman Majumdar.

Tripura CM directly responsible for Panna Ahmed’s appointment as SDM Sonamura, followed by further appointment as Joint Director of Sports. Also its Tripura CM who made a career criminal as Sports Minister rather than packing these smugglers into jail. So, its no surprise that Tripura has become heaven for international drug smuggling rackets.

So far when Ganja cultivation is undergoing rampantly at Sonamura under the eye of the EX-SDM Panna Ahmed and now he has attributed his name in the list of rape accused too. Despite of so much of allegation raised against Panna Ahmed police is yet silent to take any action.

When the entire Sonamura Sub-division has turned out to be a den for Ganja Cultivation, Ex-SDM Panna Ahmed during his stay as SDM  earlier said to TIWN correspondent that no measures have been adopted now for curtailing Ganja cultivation in the sub-division where as the sub-division is reeling under rampant ganja cultivation.

His reluctant comment over no drive against Ganja cultivation has sparked off controversy. Question arises why he is reluctant to take action against the ganja Cultivation in the sub-division when the entire sub-division has turned out to be a den for Ganja Cultivation and a web for promoting all smuggling activities where former SDM Subhasis Das has destroyed crores of Ganja from Sonamura during his time in the chair.
