AGARTALA, Aug 21 (TIWN): With the latest trends in the construction work of the flyover, people now wonder whether it is a flyover or a curse.

Eviction drive on Sunday by AMC for land acquisition of flyover construction work on the Fire Brigade junction turns daily livelihood pathetic for the common people.

For the thousands of motorists, struggling starts right at the entrance, from Bordowali itself. Once a serene area with wide, well-laid roads, the stretch now is a nightmare due to the ongoing flyover construction, says the public in unison.

The capital city's air is thick with dust due to construction of residential buildings and flyover, and digging of roads for installing utility lines.

Locals have said most of these "development works" are done without spraying any water to minimise dust.

Traffic congestion has now become regular scenario. With the on-going construction work of the fly-over work at Battala, the issue of traffic congestions came into public eye with the regular massive traffic jam from Bordowali-Battala road, disrupting the convenient movement of traffic on the road during office and school hours.

As per the latest plan to extend flyover construction work, AMC had started the eviction drive at from Sunday morning and still continuing on the second day. However, sudden demolition drive caused huge resentment among the local residents, traders as AMC did not give any prior notice. Large contingent of Police backed AMC bulldozers started demolition from wee hours as Police arrested over a dozen people for interrupting eviction drive.

Widened portions of the roads got fully occupied due to clogging on either sides of the road, dumping of the construction material on the road side, has immensely disrupted the smooth movement of traffic on the road.

Traffic simply comes to a halt or crawls on some sections of Nagerjala road as traffic jam disrupts the regular movement of the vehicles on the roads.

The saga of the traffic congestion begins from the morning and continues till late it the night. In most of the times the auto drivers deny to carry passengers and ride through this road as traffic jam continuously disrupts the smooth riding of the vehicles on the road.
