AGARTALA, Aug 18 (TIWN): West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee has named Dipa Karmakar as the icon for WB Kanyashree scheme; India’s former Cricketer Virender Sehwag has requested the government to name a special train and plane after gymnast Dipa Karmakar and athlete Lalita Babar in order to honour their efforts at the ongoing Rio Olympics.

From every corner people are saluting Dipa’s effort and stand at the Rio Olympic but unfortunately, Tripura government has failed to recognise the talents of Dipa Karmakar.

It is to be mentioned here that West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee has named Dipa Karmakar as the icon for WB Kanyashree scheme. Department of Women Development and Social Welfare, Government of West Bengal (DWD&SW) has designed the Kanyashree Prakalpa - a conditional cash transfer scheme with the aim of improving the status and well being of the girl child in West Bengal by incentivizing schooling of all teenage girls and delaying their marriages until the age of 18, the legal age of marriage.

Kanyashree Prakalpa is a West Bengal Government sponsored scheme which will be implemented henceforth in all districts of the State.

On the other hand Delhi is gearing up with huge arrangements to felicitate talents like Dipa Karmakar in the nation for her outstanding performance at the Rio Olympic.  According to  the source, Dipa to be felicitated at Delhi and she will   make public appearance at Delhi.                                                                                                                                     Had it been any other State Govt of India- by this time they would have declared a cash prize of Rs 25 Lakhs to 1 crore for bringing the rare honour of becoming the first Indian woman gymnast to clinch a Bronze Medal in Commonwealth Games and represented India from Tripura at the Rio Olympic.

From Telengana Chief Minister to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, every State Government always came forward to felicitate all great sports-persons cutting across party lines and rising above narrow politics but Tripura’s mismanagement has failed to recognise the talents of Tripura in the state.

22-year-old gymnast Dipa Karmakar who finished fourth in the vault final with a score of 15.006 - well past her previous best - and missed a bronze medal by 0.150 points. Dipa was at second place after her second attempt at the Produnova but slipped to fourth after the final contestant, American Simone Biles, put in an outstanding performance to win gold with a score of 15.966.
