AGARTALA, Aug 16 (TIWN): Both NEC and NH8 (44) are giving passage to vehicles as the road condition has improved a lot, says DM North. Talking to TIWN correspondent, DM North Sandeep Mahatme said that both the routes including alternative national highway (NEC) and main national highway-NH8 (44) are giving passage to vehicles and every huge number of vehicles are entering the state. DM North further said that today 22 number of petrol tankers, followed by 32 diesel and 32 kerosine tankers will enter the state via national highway 8(44) and NEC and if the tankers continue to move frequently in the state it can be said that Tripura will never face fuel crisis. When asked about the status of the renovation he further said that alternative highway (NEC) is fully repaired and there is no problem in the route so far, however, the renovation for the main route that is nation highway 8(44) is under taken in 5 sections. However, the work is underway in 2 section and the rest of the renovation for the 3 other section will be adopted soon.

‘He also said that if the weather remains good the renovation will be completed soon.

Chief Minister Manik Sarkar's claims that the Tripura is developing faster than any other state but the poor condition of road mainly NH44 which plays an important role in developing a State speaks opposite. Prolonged deplorable condition of the road under the years of Maniks regime is deeply questioned with the criticism of NH8-44.

The condition of National Highway has worsened after it was handed over to the State PWD by NHAI, which raised hopes among the commuters that their troubles would meet an end. But their hopes went to vein as the condition of the NH 8 -44 is getting worse day by day. After taking over the charge of maintenance of NH8  -44 the PWD is not working up to the mark.

The poor condition of the NH8-44 has lead to endless sufferings for the people who travel through this road.

After the state PWD department took over the charge of maintenance of NH8-44, the PWD has not work up to the mark for its maintenance. After the Ministry of Road Transport and Highway (MORTH) handed over development and maintenance of 104 km of the Assam Agartala National Highway (NH8-44) to the PWD from Border Roads Organization (BRO) in July 16th, 2013, the condition of theNH8-44 has worsen day-by-day due to negligence of PWD.

State Govt's apathy towards maintaining NH8-44 in proper condition resulted in turning Tripura's lifeline NH8-44 into a ditch in CM Manik Sarkar's so called 'golden era' and has turned to death trap and is left in pathetic condition raising the woe of the common people.
