AGARTALA, May 12 (TIWN): West Tripura district administration today imposed prohibitory order in and around the UK Academy and Umakanta English Medium School where counting of votes of 14 Assembly segments will be held on May 16, according to official sources.Without prior permission from the district administration, five or more people could not assembly within the 200 -feet periphery of the UK Academy and Umakanta English Medium School from 9 pm, May 15 to 9 pm, May 16, according to the official release.
An official statement from the district administration on Monday said that Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), 1973. The restriction would be valid from 9 pm on May 15 till 9 pm on May 16. Two-wheelers or four-wheelers wouldn’t be allowed to move together inside the prescribed periphery of 200 meters, the statement added. Any two-wheeler moving inside the restricted area wouldn’t be allowed to carry pillion riders. Construction material including bamboo, wood, rods, GI pipes etc were denied entry inside the restricted area by the official notification
Carrying firearms was banned inside the restricted area for the stipulated timeframe. Anybody found to violate the regulations would be tried according to Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The restriction would be imposed on the periphery flanked by IGM Chowmuhani and Fire Brigade Chowmuhani in the north, new IGM hospital building to Abola Chowmuhani in the south, new IGM hospital building to IGM Chowmuhani in the east and Fire Brigade Chowuhani to Abola Chowmuhani in the west.
Counting of votes is scheduled to start in 36 counting halls including two postal ballot counting halls across twelve venues on May 16, he said. Fourteen general observers would be deployed for supervising counting process in Tripura on the day. The counting process is slated to start at 8 am in the morning. Counting is expected to continue till evening.
