AGARTALA, May 12 (TIWN): The dawn-to-dusk Tripura bandh called by BJP, AAP and Tripura Gramin Vikas Congress (TGVC) on Monday passed off peacefully, without any incident being reported from any parts even as the state and central government offices, financial institutions and business establishment registered thin attendance.

Several rallies were held by hundreds of party supporters at important roundabouts of the city, including secretariat building, railway station, Astabal, Mahrarajganj and Battala market in support of the bandh.

West Tripura DM Abhishek Singh said, "The bandh passed off peacefully. No untoward incident was reported from any part of the district. Elaborate security arrangements were made and a large number of policemen deployed on the city streets. There was no report of any untoward incident from anywhere in the city. 153 picketeers were picked up police, out of 153 altogether 73 were BJP supporters and the remaining 80 were TPGC

Public transport like autos and city buses could hardly be seen during the first half of the day.  BJP picketers  blocked the  movements of trains. However, the markets remained partially closed. Several commuters had to face a tough time as city buses and auto rickshaws were not available. The situation started becoming normal after 3pm when a section of public transport services started plying.

The streets in the Agartala city wore an empty look as most of the vehicles were off the road except for few government and police vehicles. Some of the empty city streets were converted into playground by children as they indulged in different games.

The 12-hour bandh was called  demanding re-polling in Tripura and removal of Chief Electoral Officer Ashutosh Jindal against ‘farce’ elections held in two Lok Sabha constituencies in the State. Meanwhile main opposition party Congress and TMC did not support the bandh.
