AGARTALA, Aug 8 (TIWN): With the initiative of National Health Mission Tripura, and Health and Family Welfare Department a state level media sensitization workshop was organised on National De-worming day and also introduced MAA(Mother Absolute Affection) for promotion of breast feeding to the infants.

The program was organised at Press club on Monday.

Introducing MAA((Mother Absolute Affection) for promotion of breast feeding to the infants the dignitaries on the dias said that it is an intensified programme proposed to be launched in the month of August in an attempt to bring undiluted  focus on promotion of breastfeeding in addition to ongoing efforts through the health systems.

The goal of MAA programme is to revitalize efforts towards promotion protection and support of breast feeding practices through health systems to achieve higher breast feeding rates to the infants. 

Other than this building an enabling environment for breast feeding through awareness generation activities targeting pregnant and lactating mothers, family members and society  in order to generate demand for breast feeding.

However, the program also focussed on De-worming day where its main objective is to deworm children between the ages of (1-19) at schools and anganwadi centres. On Wednesday, India attempts the world's largest deworming programme, covering 27 crore children from 11 states and 1 union territory. 

Worm infections can cause anemia, malnourishment, impaired mental and physical development; and may cause a serious threat to children's health, education, and productivity. According to a study, the infected children cannot concentrate on their studies and they find very hard to put up their daily activities.
