RIO DE JANIRO / AGARTALA, Aug 7 (TIWN): India’s pride, Tripura’s heartthrob Dipa Karmakar will carry billion hopes when the women gymnastics events will unfold on Sunday evening at Rio .Much tension has gripped Tripura Gymnast star Dipa’s family as well as sports lovers, as Dipais going to perform for the first time in Olympic in her life. Dipa Karmakar has become just a legend in Indian woman athlete world is now the hope of whole India. Dipa Karmakar’s father, also a well-known body builder Dulal Karmakar talking to TIWN said, “Dipa’s match is in Sunday evening in Indian time in Star-Sports which is an available channel in Tripura. Her match can be seen across State”. Asking about the high-tension ahead of Dipa’s Olympic performance, proud Dad said, “You can imagine what kind of tension we are passing through.Let her just qualify the first round. We are now praying to God”, he added. However, along with Dipa Karmakar’s family, people of Tripura are eyeing for her performance, as this is the golden Opportunity that a Tripura Girl is making history becoming the first successful gymnast women of India.

 However, the Rio Craze in Tripura  is riding high as Dipa Karmakar’s pictures are all over Agartala City. 

'Produnova', a move that Karmakar has mastered and regularly executed, is considered the most dangerous move in gymnastics. A bad landing could result in paralysis or death.

On April 18, 2016, Dipa Karmakar made history by becoming the first Indian woman gymnast to make it to the Olympics. But what really sets Dipa apart among most gymnasts from across the world is her crazy perseverance to try out a move that is considered downright dangerous by most observers.

Like a slam dunk in basketball or a bicycle kick in football or a switch hit in cricket, the Produnova vault is a rare move considered the pinnacle of that sport. But unlike the other moves, the number of athletes who’ve successfully completed the Produnova is just five and Karmakar was the third. Such is the risk involved in performing this move—in case, a gymnast lands on their neck or spine— that there's talk about banning it.

Recently, talking to sports Minister Sahid Chowdhury, he said that Sports Dept. will place many hoardings at town areas wishing Dipafor Rio Olympic. “From Govt. side also we have planned to decorate the City with hoardings of Dipa Karmakar. As the Sports Minister, I wish Dipa’s success and domination over Rio Olympic”.

Tripura girl, who rode on the Produnova, a tough front handspring and two front somersaults, said she is under no pressure and will give her best in the event. Daughter of a weightlifting coach, she also got a bronze at the Asian Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Japan last year. 

"I will give my best from whatever I have practised so far. Its all about practice and the rest is how you perform on the given day,There is no such pressure of being in my first Olympics. " Dipa had told  before leaving for Rio. Dipa clinched five gold medals at the 2015 National Games in Kerala -- in individual all-round, table vault, balancing beam, uneven parallel bars and floor exercises and was one of the top medal winners at the event. 

Dipa is the third athlete in the world to complete the dangerous vault successfully after Russian Yelena Produnava and Yamilet Pena of Dominican Republic.Produnova, considered one of the most dangerous vaults in women's gymnastics, gives the 22-year-old an edge for a shock medal in the event, which she considers a pet event after extensive practice. "I have attempted this vault so many times that now it doesn't appear so difficult for me now. I am confident of giving my 100 percent," she said.  

However Dipa is now much more related with the main-stream of Indian Sports, rather than a Tripura girl. Dipa Karmakar visited in Tripurainfoway office, Agartala in 2014, along with her coach Bisweshar Nandi and her father Dulal Karmakar.

The love for Dipa has also griped the school students Tripura. Students in Agartala, organized a programme to ahead of Tripura Golden Girl Dipa Karmakar’s participation at Rio Olympic on August 7.

Rio inauguration already held on Friday, whereas Dipa will perform on August 7.

It was on April 23rd, Dipa Karmakar qualified for participating in Olympic Games. Dipa Karmakar has become the symbol for Olympic aspirants and the sports star of Tripura.

A Tripura girl created history in gymnastic world in her young age in 2016.Apart from being the first Indian woman, she will also be an Indian gymnast qualifying for the quadrennial extravaganza after 52 long years.
