AGARTALA, May 11 (TIWN): DGP C. Balasubramanian has asked the North district police authority to keep close eye on the Indo-Bangla border to thwart cross border movement of insurgents.
The DGP, who inspected Kanchapur police station and headquarters of 13th Bn TSR held meeting at Dharmanagar with Superintendent of Police, North district and three SDPOs of Kanchanpur, Dharmanagar and Panisagar and reviewed the general law and order situation and security arrangement for the counting on Friday.
In course of meeting, the DGP asked the district police authority to keep close eye on the border especially Kanchanpur subdivision which shares difficult border line, said SP, North district Abhijit Saptarshi over telephone from Dharmangar today.
Border fencing works are in full swing in Kanchanpur subdivision but the work will get stalled very soon due to monsoon. “Once the monsoon gets ended, the construction agencies will expedite fencing works”, he said. A substantial border of Kanchanpur subdivision still remains unfenced causing security concern for the law enforcement agencies.
The SP said there are some extremist hideouts across the border from where they are trying to sneak into Kanchanpur. “We are working with the BSF to ensure foolproof security along the border to ensure peace and tranquility in the district”, he said.
Security arrangement along Mizoram’s border with Kanchanpur has been beefed up keeping in mind of possible movement of NLFT militants. There are reports NLFT militants use Tripura-Mizoram border to enter Bangladesh.
Besides the North district, the DGP also reviewed the security arrangement for counting in Dhalai and Unakoti districts. Sources said the DGP asked the district police authority to ensure impartial and tight security during and after the counting. The counting of polled EVMs will be held on May 16 along with rest of the country.
