KAMALPUR, Aug 3 (TIWN): The construction of a public toilet in the ward of the Chairman created much resentment among the locales as the site of the toilet remained controversial and imposed threats of pollution. In this regard, the inhabitants appealed to the DM for stopping the project.
Recently, the Nagar Panchayat initiated to build up a public toilet in the market area which fell into the ward number 03 from which the Chairman Subrata Bhattacharjee won the election. The controversy rose from two perspectives mainly.
First the site which the Nagar Panchayat thought as khaas land actually remained jote land. And the owners of the land protested the construction. Secondly, the matter of environmental precautions became important.
The wastes of the toilet should either be put under ground which would contaminate the water sources. Otherwise, the wastes should be directed to the nearby river Dhalai, which would create hazardous impact for the people living beside the river and maintaining their daily course with the help of the river.
However, the ruling party did not take the protest easily. According to the information from the sources close to the party’s top bosses revealed that even muscle power might be used to make the project successful. Now, what steps the DM and the Nagar Panchayat would adopt remained the matter to be seen.
