AGARTALA, Aug 3 (TIWN): North Tripura reeling under several crisises from cross-border drug smuggling, arms shipments, petrol thefts, underground networks of various terrorist groups. Indo-Bangla border fencing is cut in various places by smugglers for daily cattle thefts and smuggling. SP North Maniklal Das talking to TIWN said, “The Kanchanpur area is presently suffering from various extremist attacks as that is the only portion in whole North Tripura, which has a large area of 12.5 km unfenced border”. However, northeast insurgents, illegal Bangladeshis and the internal Bru clashes are acting as the major threat to the safety of people. “In April, 2016 Twelve hardcore NLFT rebels surrendered to Tripura police. They deposited an AK-47 assault rifle, an automatic SLR, an SLR, an Insas rifle, a G-3 rifle, two grenades, 12 magazines and 369 rounds of ammunition”, SP added. As per intelligence sources, there are 25 militant training camps are still present in obscure locations of Bangladesh but its difficult for insurgent groups to operate because of several restrictions imposed by Security forces along border.“BSF is keeping strict vigilance at Kanchanpur and other North Tripura border areas, especially after the Kanchapur fire mayhem incident”, SP added.

Untoward incidents by Bru terrorists, kidnapping of innocents are raising at an alarming rate. In the month of May 2016 locals homes were bunt by Brus.  Also there are reports of Mizoram smugglers, terrorists intrusion in state, said SP.

SP also mentioned  that , “In this week Tripura Police held 3 Mizos with smuggling activity”. “Police is continuously contact with sources and trying to diminish the problem of North Tripura forever”, he said.

It’s to be mentioned that apart from NLFT, Mizoram based terrorists are building open-terrorist centers in North Tripura.

However, after the successful drive held in April 22,2106 where 30th Assam Rifles btln and Karimgnaj police nabbed two Chief Bru leaders named Arunjoy Reang & Dailoram Reang, On June 12, again Police of Kathlicherra and 30th Assam Rifles Btln successfully caught anotherBru terrorist named Shankar Barman. 

This Bru terrorist named Shankar Barman sharing the membership of a major terrorist group based in Mizoram lead by Terrorist Chief L V Charki at Mizoram and sheltering in Kanchanpur refugee camp.

One section of law enforcement officials are directly helping these various criminals in exchange of hefty bribes.

In this situation both the internal terrorism threat (BRU) and External terrorism threat (NLFT) have hit the peace of North Tripura.
