AGARTALA, July 30 (TIWN): With the aim to avoid any untoward incident ahead of the inauguration of the Agartala- Delhi express train on Sunday the administration has decided to keep four petrol pump closed in the state on sunday.

Four petrol pump including Siddhi Asram, Bordowali, Radhanagar, and Durga bari petrol pump to remain closed as at least 60 delegates from NFR, railway Board, Bangladesh will be arriving on Sunday crossing this junctions for the inauguration of the first Express train from Tripura.

Keeping in mind the ongoing rampage in the capital city for acute crisis of petrol it was decided that the petrol pump will be kept closed for one day to avoid any untoward incident.

Fuel crisis continues in Tripura as supply from neighbouring Assam by tankers has almost stopped due to dilapidated condition of the NH 44 in Assam-Tripura border.

Long queue of bikers waiting for several hours for their turn to fill petrol were noticed outside the filling stations in Agartala while most of the filling stations did not have fuel.

However, adding another milestone in the history of Tripura, the land-locked state has finally made its entry in the BG railway map of the country.

Improving the transport and connectivity in the landlocked Tripura of the northeast region is one of the top most priorities of the government. A lot of focus is being laid to enhance railway connectivity in the region.

In the first phase, the 210-km Lumding-Silchar gauge conversion project was completed last year. In the second phase, the 227-km Badarpur-Agartala gauge conversion was scheduled to be completed in March but was completed three months earlier.

With the completion of gauge conversion work right up to Agartala, the Tripura capital was connected with the country’s broad gauge railway network through Guwahati at a distance of about 600 km.

With the everyday progress in the conversion work, the common mass of the state is observing a ray of hope for faster communication and transportation with the introduction of express train in the coming days.
