AGARTALA, July 29 (TIWN): Playing the role of mute spectator, Tripura’s CM Manik Sarkar has finally followed Arvind Kejriwal Odd-even system for the petrol distribution following the acute crisis. Rather than taking any steps to improve the condition of National Highway to smoothen the petrol supply in the state CM Manik Sarkar has enforced odd-even fuel distribution system in the state. Crisis of essential commodities especially petrol and diesel has turned havoc in the state. The prolonged crisis is reported from different corners of the state. On the one hand the common people are suffering from acute petrol and diesel crisis but the authority is reluctant to take any initiative. It is alleged that one-man rule by CM Manik Sarkar has turned massacre in the state for the common people. The state largely exploited in the name of so-called development but in reality there is no much similarity with the ground level.Tripura has introduced an “Odd-Even” system from Thursday wherein petrol stations would provide fuel to odd and even numbered vehicles on alternate days.

It seems like to get petrol from any of the petrol pump has become a challenge and a matter of patience as the riders had to wait for prolonged many hours. Besides, the situation has lead the black marketing of petrol flourished in the area and the common mass are bound to buy petrol with higher rates.

This is in addition to the rationing of petrol and diesel to counter extreme fuel shortages due to poor road conditions stopping entry of fuel tankers into the state from Assam.

The state of Tripura has imposed an odd-even scheme for the distribution of petrol and diesel as it struggles with fuel scarcity caused by a damaged National Highway 8 (44).

The new system which has come into effect from Thrusday will deal with the crisis of petrol and diesel scarcity and will also put a check black-marketing in petroleum products in the state.

The system will be in effect until further notice from the Tripura government and is only expected to be stopped once NH-8 is made functional again. Intense rain and flooding have made the national highway into more of a muddy field in neighbouring Assam, which has cut off access to the state of Tripura.

The odd-even system was introduced in Delhi earlier this year to combat rising levels of pollution in the country's capital and while Tripura's scheme is quite similar to the Delhi solution but it differs in one major way.

Instead of specific days of a week being allocated to even and odd-numbered vehicles, motorists in Tripura will be able to fill up depending on whether the date is even or odd. So, on odd-numbered days of the month, odd-numbered vehicles will be able to head to the pumps whereas on even numbered days, those vehicles with registration numbers ending with an even number will be allowed to fill up.
