AGARTALA, July 27 (TIWN): With the aim to further combat the fuel crisis in the state, Tripura to enforce odd-even system of fuel distribution.

It is to be mentioned here that Tripura to introduce the “Odd-Even” system of petrol distribution in addition to the rationing of petrol and diesel due to extreme shortages as a result of the poor road condition stopping entry of fuel tanker in the state from Assam.

According to Odd-Even system vehicles with odd registration numbers will get fuel only on odd dates and those with even registration numbers on even dates.

The new system is being introduced to deal with the crisis of petrol and diesel and to check black marketing in petroleum products. Beside this there is also crisis of LPG and essential commodities in the state for the last two months.

Due to heavy rains and poor maintenance, the NH8-44 has turned into a muddy field at Lowerpoah in southern Assam adjoining northern Tripura which has almost cut off the landlocked state by road from the rest of India.

A new suggestion has come to introduce the supply at filling station on alternate days of odd and even vehicle registration number system. There are around 1lakh 43 thousand bikes in and around Agartala municipal area.

It is to be mentioned here that crisis has taken a bad shape in the state following the lack of petrol supply in the pump.  People are seen standing in long queue since morning 4 am for fetching petrol for their vehicles.

As regular vehicle movement is yet to begin smoothly on the crippled NH8-44, state is facing acute crisis of petrol in the state. Sudden crisis of petrol in the state with the blockade of the NH844 due to immovable condition of the road, common man are paying for it today.

Almost all the petrol pumps of Agartala city along with the petrol pumps at the sub-divisions were found hanging ‘No Petrol’ board. Long queue was witnessed in front of the petrol pumps in the several petrol pumps of the state.

Taking the advantage the opportunist are fully utilizing the scarcity by selling the petrol by black marketing. The petrol dealers of the State were emerging in a new trend to earn more money through black marketing which causes artificial petrol crisis in the State.

NH8-44 which is known as lifeline of landlocked Tripura has been extensively damaged due to State PWD’s negligence, resulting petrol/ diesel crisis inside the state.
