Agartala, May 6 (TIWN): To meet up the dearth of Professors in the Degree Colleges of the state, the Higher Education Department is likely to recruit a total of 150 Assistant Professors. The recruitment procedure would commence soon after the accomplishment of Lok Sabha poll procedure.

The Higher Education department has sent the file to Tripura Public Service Commission (TPSC) regarding the recruitment of Assistant Professors. The state government recruited Professors a few months back, but yet there have been vacancies.

Dearth of Professors has been hampering the education of college students. As from the current year, the colleges are going to introduce semesters; the number of Professors needed to be increased. Six new colleges were set up, but, Professors were not recruited as per the necessity. Professors are being transferred to the remote area colleges from other degree colleges.

Most of the newly appointed Professors were given posting in remote villages. “A number of students have completed Ph.D in recent times and they could apply for the new recruitment procedure. Ph.D and NET appeared students would be given priority”, said an official.

Owing to dearth of teachers, Guest Lecturers have been taking classes. Every after one year, Guest Lecturers are appointed in the colleges. As many as 300 Guest Lecturers are engaged in different colleges. After the completion of new recruitment, the contractual lecturers would be relieved.

Along with the General to be recruited as Assistant Professor, there are reserved seats for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. There are enough problems regarding the reserved posts as eligible candidates could hardly be found. The entire recruitment procedure would be started after the completion of election procedure.
