Pradesh Congress  to oppose May 12 bandh

AGARTALA, May 3 (TIWN): After Pradesh Trinamool Congress, Pradesh congress decided to oppose the bandh called by Tripura Grameen Congress on May 12 against alleged malpractice in Lok Sabha poll process.

 Pradesh Congress spokesperson Dr. Ashok Sinha said that the party opposes the bandh as it will have no effect, however a delegation of the party comprising of Tripura PCC working Ashish Kumar Saha, Pradesh Youth Congress president Sushanta Choudhury and PCC spokesperson Dr. Ashok Sinha would be visiting the Election Commission of India (ECI) on May 06.

He informed that the delegation would meet Chief Election Commissioner VS Sampath on the day and place a memorandum seeking punitive measures against all errant officials in the recently concluded Lok Sabha poll process in the state including Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Ashutosh Jindal. The party would seek fresh polls across all 3,095 polling stations in both parliament constituencies of the state as well.

Pradesh Trinamool Congress chairperson Ratan Chakrabory opposed the bandh and said that counting agents of the party would represent at concerned counting centres. We shall obey the verdict of people irrespective of the results that would come out, he said.

Meanwhile state unit BJP leadership declined to comment on their stand over the Grameen Congress. We are currently trying to understand the situation, a senior BJP leader said. However, he maintained that the party strongly opposed the role of the Chief Electoral Officer and poll machinery in Tripura during the recently concluded Lok Sabha polls.
