Agartala, May 2 (TIWN): The Left Front today sharply reacted to the bandh called by Tripura Pragatishil Gramin Congress (TPGC) demanding fresh mandate to two Lok Sabha constituencies.
In a press release, the front said over 20 voters cast their votes in the elections to two Parliamentary seats- West Tripura and East Tripura which was free, fair and peaceful.
The polling percentage was itself a record. After the polling, no political party even demanded re-poll.
“The Left Front is of the view that the bandh was unethical, undemocratic and an instigated move. It has been doing this fearing humiliating defeat in the recently concluded polling”, it said in press release.
It appealed the people to defy the bandh called by the upstart political party-TPGC and take the lead role in maintaining peace and tranquility in the state on the day of bandh.
Earlier, TPGC convener Subal Bhowmik today said the party would observe statewide bandh on May 12 demanding fresh Lok Sabha elections in the state.
“What had happened in the polling booth at Dwajanagar Anganwadi Centre in Bishalgarh subdivision was a blot in the Parliamentary democracy. We want the EC to arrange fresh election to ensure true mandate”, he said a press conference.
