AGARTALA, May 2 (TIWN): Seema Akhtar, who stood eighth position in the 2014 TPS gr- II final hurdle wants to undergo training wearing ‘borkha like uniform’ pushing the entire police establishment in an awkward situation.Of late, all the newly inducted TPS gr-II officers underwent 11-month mandatory training at KTD Singh Regional Police Academy at Narsingarh. However, Seema Akhtar stood apart from others as she sent a letter to the competent authority seeking to undergo training by wearing borkha like attire, which is missing in Tripura Police Manual.

In her letter, she also made reference of having such provision in countries like Canada and UK but not in the country she belongs to.

Stunned by the unrealistic wish of a trainee cop, the Principal of police academy sent the letter to the Police Headquarters.

Top Cop C. Balasubramaninan, who joined the office after a brief leave also embarrassed by the letter. Sensing the gravity of the letter, he constituted a five-member team of women police officers including AIG Princie Rani (IPS) to meet Seema Akhtar in order to make her understand that this kind of provision is not allowed in police service.

Academy sources said the team is scheduled to visit Seema Akhtar today to make understand this kind of wish could not be entertained in armed forces.

If they fail to convince the newly inducted TPS gr-II officer, then the DGP will try to convince her, according to sources in the police academy here today.

Even after she sticks to her wise, then the matter will be forwarded to Chief Minister Manik Sarkar for taking a decision on the sensitive issue.

Seema Akhtar, a mother of two children was a clerk in the Civil Secretariat and was a student sponsored by the Ministry of Minority for IAS/IPS and TCS/TPS examination. She took coaching in the coaching centre- School of Science at Shyamali Bazar area.

When contacted, a senior police officer said, “Her wish is unrealistic since this kind of provision is nowhere in the country. Even in IPS training, there is no such provision and religious customs should not come on way of police services”.

Echoing in the same tune, another retired police officer virtually ridiculed the wish of the young police officer. “She should be aware about ethics of police forces before joining the service”, he added.
