KHOWAI, May 2 (TIWN): The Asharambari area of Khowai facing huge power shortage due to lack of time, the power line has been remaining without repair.

With the aim to provide government facilities for the inhabitants of Khowai the power department divided Khowai in 3 subdivisions which included Khowai power subdivision, Padmabill power subdivision and Tulashikhar power subdivision, yet the condition of electricity remain the same. The natives of Asharambari under Tulashikhar power subdivision alleged that they have been suffering from a huge shortfall in the power supply since 1 week and the power department is not taking any initiative in order to sort out the problem.

The electricity crisis in Khowai has worsened due to prolonged dry spells leading to falling water levels. Owing to the severe power crisis, drinking water supply, irrigation facilities and industrial activities have become irregular across Asharambari. Most of the water sources in the region have either stopped or reduced supply to a large extent due to severe shortage of water in their reservoirs, making the situation worse. 4 deep tube-wells were installed and 3 LI project were installed for irrigation which has been remaining unrepaired. Though the problem to some extent has been solved with kuccha ring-well, but it affected irrigation.

Water scarcity has hit the cultivation disrupting economic and social activities of cultivators and the inhabitants. The cultivators have been suffering a great loss as there was no rainfall. Complaints regarding electricity problem were raised for several times in front of power department, but they remained ignorant of the issue.

Considering the complaints Senior Manager for Power Department Manindra Debbarma said, the entire state has been facing power shortage, “It is not only the problem of Asharambari” by adding that due to lack of time the power line could not be repaired.
