KAMALPUR, June 27 (TIWN): The new OC Pannalal Sen and the new SDPO Chandan Saha took their
charge at Kamalpur recently. The new officials brought with them much hope of brighter future in the
perspective of transparent and friendly policing.

People gathered hopes that now police would become some sort of social friend acting against the anti-social elements in true sense.

In the Manik’s regime the people of Kamalpur failed to find out true friends in the top cops in the sub-division. Especially, the former Officer-in- charges of Kamalpur police station got indulged in some scams and scandals in one way or the other.

The local people could not forget the OC Dilip Guha who got tainted with the raping of a minor girl at Kalyanpur in 2009. Before him, the OCs became stringent against commoners keeping up open relations with anti-socials. Almost every OC got alleged by the commoners to be in nexus with gamblers, illicit liquor sellers and contraband dealers.

In the case of the former SDPO, officers like Bhanupada Chakraborty would be in the warm memories of the local people for friendly policing and social attitude of the police. Rest of SDPOs not got indulged in scams directly but were alleged with close relationship with anti-social elements and being aloof from performing duties very cleverly.

In this context, the tir gambling, illicit liquor selling, contraband dealing took a steep hike. Commoners became the worst sufferer in the context. And the police mainly remained the loyal troop of the ruling party. The incidents of under-trial deaths in lock-up also tainted the figure of police.

And the authority never found keen to rectify the position. Hence the two new comers had to cross some hard barriers and to turn the alien police truly public here.
