AGARTALA, June 25 (TIWN): Transport Minister Manik Dey on Saturday at civil secretariat said that it is only due to the negligence of the Assam and central government towards the renovation of the NH44 which has lead to immense crisis of essential commodities in the state. He further said that although after a pause of at least few days 300 goods loaded truck would be arriving in the state on Saturday along with 40 petrol tankers which will bring down the crisis of petrol in the state. Minister Manik Dey also said that negligence of Assam government has paralysed the National Highway 44 from Lowerpoa of Assam’s Karimganj district upto Churaibari Assam gate which is lying in a terrible state. Even after several doldrums faced by the truck drivers and passengers, the so-called responsible authority could not manage their valuable time to take a notice of the miserable condition of the Assam-Agartala National Highway. He further said that the leaders and ministers have surveyed the road a number of times, but they don’t pay much attention towards the issue. The 10 km long road has turned hazardous at present and the Assam government along with central government keeps on bluffing the people with false assurance.
Though central ministry has sanctioned an amount of Rs28 crore for the renovation of the NH44 from Lowerpoa to Churraebari section within 7 days but even after passage of days no initiative is taken for the renovation.
Slamming Central government Minister Manik Dey further said that central led BJP government is just bluffing the people and are not taking any proper initiative for the renovation of the dilapidated NH44.
It is to be mentioned here that the condition of these stretches of the highways has become so bad that in some patches these have turned into virtual craters. In fact, the deplorable condition of these national highways has led to resentment amongst local people, with the demand for their maintenance growing and intensifying.
The condition of the NH44 has changed from bad to worse due to the lack of maintenance of the road.
However, the potholes on this highway are deep. Road users find it difficult to pass the distance and the journey time has become almost double because of the poor condition of this busy highway, resulting in wastage of fuel at a time when fuel saving assumes importance. Car and two-wheeler users are the most affected. The bad condition of the roads results in many minor accidents and heavy traffic jam in several places.
