SABROOM, June 24 (TIWN): A massive fire broke out in ONGC's sealed drilling site at Duimukhiya of Takka Tulsi Village under Powangbari Block of Sabroom Subdivision. It is learnt that the fire broke out all on a sudden this afternoon at 2pm but till at 9.30pm it was out of control, finally fire was doused at 10pm with the help of experts and fire fighters. Almost all the fire engines from Gomati and South Tripura districts dispatched to spot. Two more fire engines from Agartala have been called in the evening. Top level police officials as well as District administration is on high alert and out of safety measures people living at a radius of 1.5km of the place of occurrence have been evacuated. It is learnt that 5 sophisticated special fire engines of ONGC have already been sent to the spot. On Saturday a high level Technical team of experts of ONGC will arrive in Tripura and immediately they will rush to the spot. They will inspect the situation and only after this the actual reason for this mishap will be learnt.Meanwhile , this Drilling Point was learnt to be sealed around 20 years ago.

But during the last two decades ONGC has not inspected the spot on regular basis, said the local people.

Experts  suspected that somehow the sealing point might have developed some leakages and as result of it massive fire broke out.

A large number of police officials are on the spot so that no untoward incident takes place.

At around 10pm fire fighters got control over the fire after relentless battle of almost 8 hours.

SP South Bhanupada Chakraborty told this correspondent at night 10pm ," Fire is now under control. Most important thing is that there is no casualty so far."
