AGARTALA, June 24 (TIWN): A programme held on National Deworming Day to upgrade the health condition of students studying in various schools across the state.
The programme held at Pragna Bhawan on Friday.
The programme basically organized by Govt of Tripura in collaboration with Evidence Action, deworm the World Initiative.
Reportedly, the overall prevalence of any Soil-transmitted helminth (STH) infections are among the most common infections worldwide and affect the poorest and most deprived communities.
In Tripura the overall prevalence of any STH was calculated as 60%.
Prevalence of any STH in private schools was 55% and in government school it was 60% .
The who estimated that over million preschools and school-aged children are at risk of STH infection and Tripura also sharing the high risks under STH infection in various schools and Anganwadis.
It was also mentioned that the treatment with a simple pill is universally recognized as a safe and cost effective solution.
School based deworming programmes leverage the existing and extensive infrastructure of schools and the document importance of convenience in achieving high take up of preventive healthcare.
