AGARTALA, June 19 (TIWN): Clouds of uncertainty hovering over Mizo repartition as the Secretary for Revenue (including Relief & Rehabilitation and Disaster Management) for Tripura, Punit Agarwal couldn’t clearly say anything about the possibility of Mizo repartition. Secretary Punit Agarwal while talking to TIWN said that nothing can be said regarding this repatriation issue right now. ‘Unless and until the govt. directory doesn’t announce anything I can’t make comment against it’, he added. Union Home Ministry officials and top officials of Tripura and Mizoram governments in a meeting with the leaders of the Reang tribal refugees have asked them to return to their homes in Mizoram and take the benefit of the rehabilitation package. Union Home Ministry's Joint Secretary in charge of the northeast Satyendra Garg requested the refugees to go home as per the road map finalized by the Mizoram government. After their return the demands of the refugees would be fulfilled. Govt’s failure to relocate the refugees is increasing violence in state, especially in North Tripura.

But the peace talks between the Centre MHA team and Tripura Govt. officials have been ended up without solutions as Mizo’s demands are too high. Thus the latest effort of the Union Home Affairs Ministry ended without any solution  which was about the relocation of more than 30,000 Mizoram Bru tribal refugees .

On June 4 at Kanchanpur Bru refugee camp, along with Satyendra Garg Snadeep Mahatme, North DM, Punit Agarwal Secretary of Re-habilitation Dept. had been present and held meeting with Brus for the development of the Mizo-repartition issue, but Home Ministry officials could not resolve the issue as Bru are strict about their demands from Mizo Govt.

After that no press conference was arranged by the govt. side and thus the matter remained in doubt.

Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju in 2015 stated that the ministry has taken measures to repatriate the Bru refugees to their homes in Mizoram in a phased manner.

Rijiju, in a written reply to a question by M Chandrakasi in the Lok Sabha, stated that the ministry is also extending financial as well as other logistical assistance to both the state governments of Mizoram and Tripura for their repatriation and resettlement.

But t seems that the ethic tension between the Reang tribals and locals here to remain unsolved as none of the Govt. has desire to end the matter.
