AGARTALA, June 13 (TIWN): Tripura Govt. has released data about the total number of homeless people during a ‘Affordable Housing’ programme held at Sukanta Academy on Saturday. RD Dept. Engineer S K Majumdar released data about the total homeless people exists in state via a power point presentation.
The number of Homeless however has shown as 26,917 nos. The IAY allocated funds in the year 2007 for providing shelter to the homeless, but in 2016 under Tripura Govt. the number of homeless people still stands with 26, 917 nos.
During delivering his speech PWD Minister Badal Choudhury said, ‘Govt.’s target is to provide homes to the homeless within next 2 years’.
It’s to be mentioned here that Tripura Ministers eagerly waiting for 2018 election’s and Badal Choudhury’s speech shows that Govt. has no concern to complete the IAY project within this running year, rather Govt. trying to stretch the issue till 2018 election.
Badal Choudhuy also declines the idea about ‘Affordable Homes’ by using MGNREGA fund which could decrease the lablour cost too.
‘Affordable homes with Bamboos will hit the sentiment of Tripura’s poor people as they were waiting for Pakka homes’, said Choudhury.
But Choudhury declined the fact that poor people who do not have shelter also, a home was like heaven to them (doesn’t matter Pakka or Kachha). However, under Tripura Govt. IAY is under scanner as many time allegations raised against the Panchayats for depriving a section of people and providing homes to the CPI-M cadres, who already have houses.
It’s worthy to mention here that in 2015 it disclosed that a group of false Indira Awas Yojana beneficiaries were selected by PRI Bodies under South Tripura District.
Allegations were also raised against enrollment of a person's name in the beneficiary list of Indira Awas Yojana by Opposition Parties for the Financial Year of 2012-13 and 2014-15 in different gram Panchayats of different RD Blocks under South Tripura District.
Many BPL families were deprived on that time. The list of non-eligible beneficiaries include government employees like teachers and peons too.
