KANCHANPUR / AGARTALA, June 13 (TIWN): Even though CPI-M govt achieved success in controlling terrorism since two decades in Tripura, but recent surge of new terrorist groups in north Tripura disturbing communual balance along Kanchanpur Tripura-Mizoram border region. Due to lack of proper police intelligence network, Tripura again facing hard times due to terrorists attacks by Bru extremists. Lack of cooperation between Tripura and Mizoram Govts, then lethargy of Mizoram to take them back, bru refugees disturbing the peaceful environment of Northern Tripura. Kidnapping of innocents for ransom by Bru terrorists, are rising at alarming rate, but Tripura Govt. yet to take tough measures .Union Home Ministry's Joint Secretary in charge of the Northeast Satyendra Garg visited Kanchanpur on June 4 but outcome of this meeting with Bru leaders, Mizoram and Tripura Govt is stil inconclusive as Bru refugees are reluctant to return to Mizoram.Garg told reporters in Agartala that the Supreme Court had asked the Union Home Ministry and the Mizoram and Tripura governments to jointly work for the return of the tribal refugees to their homes in Mizoram.
Allegations by Kanchanpur locals against Manik Sarkar govt. is that Bru insurgents had done many violent crimes in state, including burning of local Bengali homes to kidnapping innocent people for ransoms.
However, apart from the incident of Burning homes of locals in May 15 there are many incidents which shows how much the Mizo repartition is necessary to flush out Brus for the sake of Tripura’s safety.
However, after the successful drive held in April 22, when 30th Assam Rifles Batellion and Karimgnaj police nabbed two Chief Bru leaders named Arunjoy Reang & Dailoram Reang, on Sunday again police of Kathlicherra and 30th Assam Rifles successfully caught another Bru terrorist named Shankar Barman.
Bru terrorist named Shankar Barman also connected with a major terrorist group based in Mizoram lead by Terrorist Chief L V Charki at Mizoram.
Earlier Bru terrorist kidnapped a local from North Tripura and following this incident police caught him from Gharmura (Near to Hailakanti, Assam).
It’s worthy to mention here that Tripura has already suffered from brutal terrorist attacks and another era of insurgency is mostly avoidable if Manik Sarkar takes much stronger initiatves to apply pressure on Mizoram and Central Govt.
Tripura Govt. since many years have ignored the activities of Bru refugees, but present incidents should open eyes that many refugees are emerging as splinter terrorist groups.
About 31,300 Reang tribals, who call themselves 'Bru', have been living in seven makeshift camps in North Tripura's Kanchanpur areas adjoining Mizoram since October 1997. They had fled ethnic violence in western Mizoram following the killing of a Mizo forest officer at the Dampa Tiger Reserve.
But now many of these Reang tribal (Bru) youths are choosing the path of extremism due to lack of education and opportunities to sustain livelihood.
Bru terrorist group's modus operandi have been identified as blackmailing and to grab money from people, due to extreme poverty across Tripura and Assam area.
Bru terrorists violent activities inside Tripura on rise as burning homes of locals and de-sheltering becoming critical issues causing communal clashes between Reangs and Bengalis in Kanchanpur.
