Drug smuggling business inside the State is getting boost day after day due to unholy nexus of Drug Mafias and some corrupt officials of State Police. In January, Jirania Police recovered 900 grams of brown sugar, worth Rs 42 lakhs from Jirania, 35 kilometer from the capital city. The arrested youth were identified as, B Obroi Meseka (22), Sanu Ram Reang (29), Ajoy Kalai (28), Sudip Debbarma (27).
In most cases it has been seen that unemployed young people are engaged in drug trafficking activities.
In February, a team of Battala outpost police arrested one Nihar Ranjan Roy drug peddler and claimed to have busted a smuggling ring involved in selling drugs from one state to another.
Drug smuggling is gaining momentum in the state and on the issue of contraband goods, no amount of laws seems to be enough to reign in the production and distribution of banned substances.
A large part of Bangladesh and Myanmar are emerging as drug consuming zones, and bordering areas of Tripura are contributing to the fast-emerging drugs market, the sources mentioned.
Drug business, massive narcotics business is destroying the young generation of State, but Manik Sarkar and CBI charsgesheeted corrupt DGP K.Nagraj run Tripura Police Dept’s many officials are keeping their eyes closed due to regular bribes from drug mafias.
As a result, even though many upright Police officers want to nab culprits but political, departmental corruption keeping honest officials at bay.
