AGARTALA, May 25 (TIWN): Tripura Government celebrated the 117th birth anniversary of Kazi Nazrul Islam on Wednesday.
In Agartala organized a cultural programme at Nazrul Kalaskhetra in this purpose.
Minister Sahid Chowdhury, Minister Ratan Bhowmik inaugurated the programme and during his speech he spoke about the dedication of Najrul in Freedom Fights and his contribution as Bangladesh Liberation war.
Minister Ratan Bhowmik, Minister Tapan Chakraborty were present in Rabindra Bhawan.
The programme was organized by the state Information and Cultural affairs department.
However, apart from Agartala, in many subdivisions the programme was celebrated.
Born on 1899 the revolutionary poet Nazrul Joined the British Indian army in 1917 and left in 1920 when the 49th Bengal Regiment was disbanded.
He was popular for his open mindedness against religious dogmatism. Although a Muslim, he named his sons with both Hindu and Muslim names.
