KAMALPUR, May 20 (TIWN): It might seem a bit uncanny but it’s true that, in the Kamalpur Nagar Panchayat area there remained no separate toilet block for the women. And the toilets in different offices with the sticker of ‘ladies’ toilet’ remained either beyond use or remained under lock and key.
Hence, the women who used to come in the town area for different purposes from different parts of the sub-division had to suffer the worst. And it remained an irony that when the former Chief Justice Dipak Gupta introduced ladies’ toilet block at Agartala after a letter by a woman from Kamalpur, her own town remained lack of the facility.
When the matter was discussed with the Nagar Panchayat Chairperson Subrata Bhatatcharjee and Executive Officer Richard L. Jongte, they both happily declared that there remained separate toilet for women with every male toilet.
Further they claimed that, the toilet facilities remained there at different offices. But the fact remained that, those toilets specified for women either turned impossible to use for lack of water, lack of cleanliness or remained under lock and key. Then the Chairperson assured TIWN that, something would be done shortly.
But how much time would be needed to provide the women at least some sort of honor and relief, remained the matter to be seen.
