Thunder claims two, one injured

AGARTALA, May 18 (TIWN): At least were killed on and one was left injured in lightning strikes in Tripura, official said here on Wednesday.

Reportedly, huge thundering and lightening claimed two at Krishnabari area under Champahaur police station.

The deceased are the resident of Krishnabari area under Champahaur police station at Behalabari ADC village on Wednesday.

Rain, accompanied by high velocity winds, lightning and thunder, has been lashing Tripura since Sunday, damaging crops and uprooting electric poles and trees.

The sudden rain along with wind in isolated parts of the state brought much relief from the scorching temperature. During last couple of days, heat waves had affected the livelihood of the common people in the state. But after the rain, brought delight to the residents, who were reeling under sweltering heat. The day temperature that was around 36 degree came down after the rain. According to MET Department the sky will remain cloudy and frequent rainfall will also occur.

With heavy storm, trees fell damaged overhead lines, disrupting power supply.

Due to rains and gusts of wind, the branches of trees fell on overhead lines and now Phase-by-phase, the supply was being restored.

The rain along with a thundering storm has also uprooted hundreds of trees and telephone and electricity poles and triggered panic among the people of the state.

Storm hit various remote areas grounding several electric pillars. The storm caused huge damage to the electricity transmission line in different areas. Several electric pillars were uprooted after trees fell into transmission line. Electric poles were uprooted in the squalls, affecting the movement of vehicles in the cyclone-affected rural areas along with the capital city.
