AGARTALA, May 18 (TIWN): Manik Sarkar led CPI-M Govt’s apathy to resolve the long pending issue of Bru refugees repatriation causing Bengali-Bru racial tensions which finally turned into an inferno causing hapless Bengali settlers homeless.Tension prevailed among the 171 Bengali refugees, whose homes were burnt on May 15, in Kanchanpur at Northern Tripura by few angry Tribal Bru refugees, originally hailing from Mizoram. The Bengali refugees who are original citizens of Tripura, are now passing days and nights as Refugees in TSR camp, at North Tripura. The arson followed suicide by a tribal man living in a refugee camp at Kanchanpur, 175 km north from Agartala, after he was allegedly beaten up by locals. Bhriguram Reang, 36, allegedly committed suicide on Sunday after he was beaten up by local people who accused him of catching fish from a pond without seeking permission from the owner. But after that incident no solution have been done to the situation by the sate govt. of Tripura as a result of which resentment has been brewed among the Bengali refugees.

Although Prinacipal Secretary GSG Ayyangar made a 5 minutes spot visit in the affected areas after 24 hrs of communual clash,, however it is to be noted that by using helicopter from Agartala with full hoard of security is nothing but waste of tax payers money.

Dr. Ayyangar’s 5 minute visit didn’t help to cool down the aggravated situation where tension has been brewing since years due to lack of Manik Sarkar Govt. planning. Absence of state CPI-M leaders who claim as  poor people’s messiah not to be  seen anywhere near the troubled spot, that raises the doubt whether Manik Sarkar and his fellow comrades are really serious about solving the 3 decade old issue.

Victim Bengali settlers have declined to take the state Govt. offered compensation money of 10,000/- . The refugees have declined to receive the money as they claims that too little for the losses they are undergoing.

On Tuesday, BJP leaders went to the spot today and asked for CM’s resignation from the past of Home Ministry.

The refugees who are serving with poor quality of food at army camp are dumped into a big hall, have claimed that the army and police didn’t control the situation on May 14 although they were present at that time.

Sources, said that TRS jawans didn’t get permission of firing in due time from the home Ministry, as a result the massacre happened.

The people who are citizen of Tripura have now spending days as refugees due to the poor management by the Home Minister.

Moreover, after the clash between Brus and the Benglai locals had occurred a peace talk was held among the locals in the presence of administrative officials on May 5, but no step was taken for the security of the locals over there, which emerged the incident of May 14, where 21 houses, were burnt and many were damaged.

Now the Benagli people have come up with a demand : that is, either to shift the Brus from that place or to shift the Bengalis from there, so that the chaos may be stopped permanently.
