 Agartala Municipal Council to become Corporation

Agartala, Sept 19 (TIWN): The Council of Minster under the chairmanship Chief Minister Manik Sarkar took a series of decision in a meeting held on September 17 at civil secretariat. Speaking to media person Minister of Higher Education Bhanu LaL Saha on September 19 said that the Agartala Municipal Act 1994 will be amended for giving Corporation status to Agartala Municipal Council. In the earlier act it was mentioned for constituting a corporation the population should be more then 5 lakhs.

The minister stated that are many corporations in the country whose population is more then 2 lakhs. The cabinet decided to amendment the act and brings down it to 3 lakhs. The present population of AMC is more then 4 lakhs, once the act is amended in the assembly, it will pave the way for constituting  AMC as  a Corporation.

Besides, the minister informed due to the amended act the state will have nine municipal councils. There can be a municipal council where population is more then 50,000 but after amendment the strength of population should be above 15, 000.  After the amendment 10 Nagar Panchayat will be functioning in the state out of the total   19 Nagar Panchayats.

  The cabinet decided to appoint all the terminated 257 employees of AYUSH a project under NHRM. They will be appointed as DRW staff under health and family welfare department. All the employees were recruited by NHRM as attendants, for last six months they were not paid any salaries.
