Tripura pays homage to Tagore on his 155th Birth anniversary

AGARTALA, May 8 (TIWN): Along with the entire nation, Tripura on Sunday observed 155th birth anniversary of eminent poet Rabindranath Tagore who has also commemorated his attachment to the state during royal regime.

Both the government and non-government organisations celebrated the day with different cultural programmes with the main event was organised by the state Information and Cultural Affairs department at Rabindra Kanan on Sunday morning.

Whereas the non-governmental organisation has also staged a cultural programme at Agartala Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhawan. Along with a week long programme has also began from Sunday to mark the 155th birth anniversary of Tagore.

Besides, the state ICA department like every year has also organised a week long cultural programme at Agartala Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhawan.

Born in the city of Kolkata Rabindranath Tagore was a Bengali poet of India. His name is written as Rabindranath Thakur in Indian languages. He was also a philosopher and an artist. He wrote many stories, novels and dramas, as well as composing music and many songs.

His writings greatly influenced Bengali culture during the late 19th century and early 20th century. In 1913, he won the Nobel Prize in Literature, the first Asian to win this prize. He was popularly known as Gurudev.

Rabindra Jayanti is the day which marks the birth anniversary of the great scholar and novelist Rabindranath Tagore. Birthday of the noble laureate Rabindranath Tagore is celebrated on 25th day of Baisakh. In Kolkata, it is popularly called Poncheeshe Boishakh and is celebrated ceremoniously and jauntiness all across West Bengal. According to the Gregorian calendar Rabindra Jayanti is celebrated on 8th or 9th of May. Rabindranath is remembered on this day. It is celebrated with equal fervour at Shantiniketan, the university started by Rabindranath Tagore.
