AGARTALA, May 8 (TIWN): School education department on Sunday organised a cultural program at Rabindra Bhawan as an observance of 155th birth anniversary of eminent poet Rabindranath Tagore. The day is also addressed as Rabindra Jayanti.
The program was inaugurated by Welfare of Scheduled Caste minister Ratan Bhowmik in presence of AMC Mayor Prafullajit Sinha and others at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhawan.
As a part of the program, homage was paid to eminent poet Rabindranath Tagore on the occasion of his 155th birth anniversary.
The 155th birth anniversary of great poet Rabindranath Tagore, the writer of national anthem of the country, was celebrated with great fervour and enthusiasm.
On the 25th of Baishakh in 1268 Bengali year, Rabindranath Tagore, the fountainhead of Bengali wisdom was born at Jorashako in Kolkata. Nobody had influenced the minds of so many Bengali-speaking people before or after him. His influence has been compared, by many, to Shakespeare in the English-speaking world.
Tagore received Nobel Prize in literature in 1913.
For Bangladesh, Rabindranath holds special significance. His poems and his songs had inspired the nation in its most difficult years and the country had adopted one of his songs “Amar Sonar Bangla” (My Golden Bengal) as its National Anthem.
A series of day long cultural programs are being held today starting from the locality-level clubs to the top social and cultural organizations.
People brought out Prabhat Pheries this morning in most of the localities across the state singing Rabindra Sangeet along with large portraits of the poet
