AGARTALA, April 30 (TIWN): North Eastern Frontier railway official on Saturday met Tripura Transport Minister Manik Dey at Civil Secretariat, discussed official matters regarding pending issues affecting BG expansion upto South Tripura.

After the completion of BG conversion Tripura is waiting for full service of passenger train in Tripura which is likely to start from May 2 on trial run basis in Agartala-Silchar sector.

However, there are many projects which are in hand for NFR as Modi Govt expanding NE India's infrastructure.

Tripura North Eastern Frontier railway official along with other NFR members  met Tripura Transport Minister for equal co-operation in further projects.

However, in the year 2015, September Tripura Transport Minister Manik Dey expressed heavy discontent on Northeast Frontier Railway’s (NFR) decision to proceed with Broad Gauge (BG) conversion in two phases in the Agartala-Lumding route and said that the NFR authorities behaved in a most disgraceful manner by imposing the decision on people of Tripura.

However, the Tripura Govt. during the inauguration took the full credit of the railways work and seemed happy with the pomp and glory.

As there are many more works left which need to be completed and NFR reportedly asked for the co-operation of the state govt. for those pending.

For example, a 15-km railway track linking Tripura’s capital Agartala with Bangladesh’s south-eastern city of Akhaura is on progress. It is an important railway junction connected to Chittagong port, resource-rich Sylhet and Dhaka. Total cost of the proposed project is estimated at Rs. 252 crore.
