Unscientific Construction of Gomati District Hospital leading to great suffering for patients : Hospital lacks doctors, nurses, technical staffs : Gomati District Administration in slumber

UDAIPUR , April 27 (TIWN) : Gomati District Hospital at Tepania started its journey on 19th June 2012 and on the very first day Chief Minister Manik Sarkar complained that the construction agency Larsen & Turbo ( L&T) did not act on a satisfactory note regarding the construction of the hospital building . The entire design of the hospital was made for a Centrally Controlled Air Conditioned Hospital . Considering the attitude and ability of the state gov't , a gov't hospital to be run under centrally sponsored system is nothing but a day dream . But who is to be blamed ? Why didn't the Health Department and State's engineering cell look after the entire process of construction properly ? As such the patients admitted in this hospital have to go through a nightmare even if he /she has to spend only 24 hours . The condition of the patients , who are to remain on the 3rd floor is simply unbearable due to excessive heat. As the construction is made for a central ac system, naturally number of windows is very few in each floor starting from ground to the 3rd floor .

Interestingly most of the crucial units are on the 2nd and 3rd floors of the hospital . One can easily guess how much the patients have to suffer especially during this hot summer days.

At the same time the lift , which has been installed for smooth movement of aged and heavily injured patients as well as emergency patients , does not work . Even on the inauguration day it did not work and Chief Minister Manik Sarkar rebuked the officials of L& T as he had to go to the different floors on that walking on foot due to non-functioning of the lift .

The condition of the ICU is very poor as the normal beds are there for the ICU patients and more importantly most of the beds were taken from the TripuraSundari Hospital . Speaking to TIWN a technical staff of the hospital ( unwilling to reveal his identity ) said ," We are in miserable condition . We lack equipments , technical staffs and sophisticated machineries but the patient parties won't listen to us ; rather they blame us for being negligent. But the fact is that the hospital itself lacks infrastructure ."

It is to be mentioned that during his speech on the inaugural programme the then Health Minister Tapan Chakraborty proudly told the people ," Gomati District Hospital will be purely a referral hospital with specialized doctors . Even a thread or a needle won't be brought from TripuraSundari Hospital . Each and every infrastructure will be newly established . "  But the Minister soon forgot the promises he made and I someone asks him now , he would surely put the ball on the court of present Health Minister Badal Choudhury saying that he is not in the charge of that ministry.

Gomati District hospital does not only lack technical staffs but it also lacks specialised doctors , nurses . The number of beds too are not sufficient as many patients are seen lying on make shift beds on floors . The condition of the laboratory too is not upto the marks as trained technicians are not in adequate numbers . Most of the patients are to go to the private labs to get any kind of test done and this costs a huge amount as the private labs don't lose any chance to make money .

Ambulance services too are not upto the mark and most patient parties , obviously poor , have to take private ambulances to take their patients to Agartala spending at least Rs 1200/- on a single occasion.

The hospital has no rest house for patients parties and as such people are seen to sit under the sky facing extreme heat and during the monsoon the situation gets even worse. Considering the problems of the patients, who come here for treatment , state Health Ministry must take some concrete steps to improve the overall condition of the hospital . At the same time number of windows needs to be increased in each floor to make way for free movement of air through them.
