AGARTALA, April 15 (TIWN): People in Tripura got respite from the scorching heat on Thursday night after a storm followed by mild rains brought down the maximum temperature.
The heavy storm however created havoc in some areas as many trees were uprooted and electric pole fell causing power outage in some places.
Many were reportedly left injured at several places following the storm on Thursday night.
In another incident, an old woman was severely hurt when a tree fell over her house during the storm.
The MeT department has predicted more rain in the coming days.
Severe storms created all sorts of problems throughout the state especially in Lankamura and sarblunga area Thursday.
Storm and heavy shower left its destructive mark at different parts of the sub-division last night. Many families lost their roofs over head virtually and many houses dashed to the ground. The electricity connections at different parts received major jolt and feared to take two or three days to be restored completely.
The people experienced a dreadful day. Big trees and electric poles had fallen over the houses of Rajmohan sarkar, Gita Chakraborty, purnima sarkar and others.
However, a 75 years old lady was also severely injured in the storm when the tree had failed over her room and was trapped inside the room.
Many more housed experienced the same fate at lankamura area. The electricity connections and poles also collapsed in a large area of the sub-division.
However, the administration did not reach to the rescue of the distressed people as alleged by the commoners. As the possibility of heavy shower still hovered even today, so people remained in fear of the further such incident today.
Life and business has been largely affected due to power cuts enforced for hours recently.Though getting respite from the scorching heat, heavy rains crippled normal life. Within hours of storm across the state disrupted electricity connections in few areas. Power was disrupted in few areas like Dukli, Badharghat, Milanchakra, Milanshangha, Battala and other places of the capital city and the rural Tripura creating problem for the people.
Storm hit various remote areas grounding several electric pillars. The storm caused huge damage to the electricity transmission line in different areas. Several electric pillars were uprooted after trees fell into transmission line. Electric poles were uprooted in the squalls, affecting the movement of vehicles in the cyclone-affected rural areas along with the capital city.
