Locals staged mass protest at Amtali electricity office for continuous power disruption in the area over past few days, power cut hits large
TIWN

AGARTALA, April 15 (TIWN): The agitated locals of Surjyamani Nagar area on Friday staged mass protest at Amtali electricity branch after the area was reportedly hit with power crisis over past few days.

It is to be mentioned here that the locals have informed the matter at Sekerkot Bidyut Bhawan after the area was cut off from electricity connection over past 15 days but so far no action is taken.

Earlier the locals ransacked the Sekerkot Bidyut Bhawan and later keeping the employees inside the office the locals locked the office building.

Huge resentment sparked off in the area following the power cut over past 15 days.

Despite of several tall claims by the ministerial authority of the state saying that with the commencement of Palatana and with the extension hand of the other power plants of the state, Tripura will be a load-shedding Free State, till day the civilians are facing unscheduled load shedding frequently.

Unscheduled load-shedding running into hours has landed the people across the State in dire straits.

When Tripura is hit with massive power crisis, the Tripura government with all its effort marked the supply of the 100MW power to Bangladesh with the formal inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bangladeshi Premier Sheikh Hasina through video conferencing.

State suffers with poor electricity supply but ministers for earning huge revenue has started the 100MW power supply to Bangladesh without making Tripura a power surplus state. It is to be mentioned here that, India has inked an agreement to supply 100 MW of electricity to Bangladesh from the gas-based palatana power plant from Tripura at ₹5.50 a unit more or less identical to the weighted average generation tariff of 6.50 in Bangladesh. India currently supplies 500 MW to Dhaka through the West Bengal border.

Where the State Government claims to make the capital a smart city on the other hand they fails to provide the basic necessity that is a load shedding Free State. The people of the capital where has to face prolonged hours of load shedding, in the interior parts there are people who are continuing their life in dark for several days.

Allegedly, Tripura is facing serious load-shedding problem due to drop of supply from within state. Life and business has been largely affected due to power cuts enforced for hours every day. Load shedding in Tripura has made life miserable as Tripura’s own power generation is down to its half of total capacity during past few days. Most areas of the city are facing load shedding of at least one to two hours per day. As a result the life of people has become miserable here in the State.
