Traditional Garia Puja observed in Tripura

UDAIPUR / AMARPUR, April 13 (TIWN): Tripura tribal community observed Garia puja on the last day of month Chaitral.

This celebration basically belongs to the Jamatia Hoda community and they set the locations every year for the puja and Garia-Mela centres. The main puja is held on the last day of Chaitra. 

Tripura's local holiday has been declared on April 20, which is known as the "Sena" or 'Dasami' on the last day of Garia puja. 

Mass gathering was observed at Amarpur Debbari to Udaipur Athrobla and many other places of North Tripura and South Tripura. But basically the main of the Garia fair was this time Atharobla, Udaipur.

Jamatia people on this day worship Baba Garia. ‘Garia’ is another formation of Lord Shiva.

Garia Puja is the highest annual religious festival mainly of the Jamatia Tribe the 3rd largest tribe among the 19 tribes of Tripura.

Like every year the stature of Garia is being taken to the every house of Debbari village during the morning time and after that all the rituals and customs are being performed by the Jamatia people. Many sacrifices of goats will be done during the whole day. Pulindra Kr. Jamatia(Hoda Okra) is accomplishing all the important rituals of the puja.

It is to be mentioned here that Amarpur Debbari is not only gathered by the tribes, but people regardless cast,creed, religion are coming from many parts of Tripura and assembling in the unity of brotherhood.

Atharobla, at Udaipur is the area of Jamatia Hoda with 2 ocras, so the interest of the public regardless Bengali & Tribal were huge there.
