AGARTALA, April 11 (TIWN): In a major breakthrough, 10 NLFT underground cadres and two over-ground cadres on Monday deposited their weapons to Tripura Police at Police headquarter. In a press conference of Tripura Police, the arrested NLFT has deposited one AK-47, two SLR, one Insus riffle, one G-3 rifle, two grenades, 369 live cartridges and twelve magazines. It has been mentioned that in a fight against the extremism in Tripura, altogether ten NLFT under-ground cadres and two over ground cadres led by Tarun Mohan Tripura and two over ground cadres has decided to give up their path of extremism and approached the State Police on April 10. It is to be mentioned here that according to the Government policy of welcoming back misguided youth from the path of violence and bring them back to the main stream of life. Therefore, it was decided to facilitate their surrender.Accordingly, SP (Special Branch) Arindam Nath and other Tripuira police officers had arranged for their return from Bangladesh through BSF BOP no. 2298/MP on Apriol 10.However, the NLFT cadres were accompanied by 20 family members. It is to be mentioned here that on Monday all the twelve NLFT cadres have formally surrendered to K. Nagaraj,in-charge DGP. However, surrender of twelve NLFT members is big jolt for the NLFT especially at a time when the outfit is plagued by weak finances, disillusioned cadres and frequent rifts.

As per the preliminary information, the NLFT cadres indicated that the NLFT’s activities have derailed towards personal enrichment of a few leaders and is not in any way espousing the cause of tribals in Tripura.

They also appear to be disenchanted with the promise of negotiated surrender being propagated by the NLFT leadership.

However, the NLFT cadres expressed their desire to return to the main stream and lead a normal life.
