AGARTALA, March 27 (TIWN): The 9th ONGC Agartala marathon was held on Sunday which was kicked off from Khudi ram Bose School organised by the Tripura Players Welfare Association.

The Oil & Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (ONGC) has organised the 9th Marathon race 2016 under the initiative of Tripura Players Welfare Association. The race was kicked off from Agartala Khudi ram Bose School English medium school ground and covered a distance of 21 km for the male contestants while 10 km for the female contestants.

However, for all the sports lovers of Tripura there are also category like run for fun for 1.5Km.

It is to be mention here that a total of 1000 male and female candidates have participated in the rally.

The rally was flagged off by sports minister Shahid Chowdhury for both male and female.

However, the rally moved across several parts of the street and concluded at the school filed and later prize distribution ceremony was also held which was attended by Deputy Speaker Pabitra Kar. However later prizes were distributed among the rank holders from the participants categorizing the two groups – male and female.   

However, The 4 days long 9th ONGC Maitri baton of Agartala marathon being organized by the Tripura player’s welfare association which left for Bangladesh was handed over to MP Jiten Chowdhury and later the baton was handed over to the founder of the marathon in Dr.Brandabban Bihri Kathiaba,  .

The event had generated a huge interest among the people. This year also, Tripura Players welfare society made it an open race so that noted long distance runners from other parts of the country can take part, one of the organizers he added.

The marathon witnessed over 1000 participants from different parts of the state, source informed.

President of Tripura player’s welfare association Sujit Ray, Secretary Amiya Kumar Das and other members of the association remained present in the marathon ceremony.
