On this day worldwide the celebration is marked to understand the Women's contribution to world and the society. All around the world, International Women's Day represents an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of women while calling for greater equality.

International Women's Day (IWD), originally called International Working Women's Day, is celebrated on March 8 every year.

In different regions the focus of the celebrations ranges from general celebration of respect, appreciation, and love towards women to a celebration for women's economic, political, and social achievements.

International Women's Day is celebrated across the world over, every year on the eight day of March.  It celebrates womanhood and pays tribute to the indomitable spirit of women across the globe.

Its root lies in the early 1900s when oppression and inequality was spurring women to become more vocal and active in campaigning for change. The first National Woman'sDay was more or less a political event, observed across the United States on 28 February. It was the initiative of Socialist Party of America.

International Women's Day was celebrated the first time in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland on 19 March. More than one million women and men attended the rallies campaigning for women's rights to work, vote, be trained, to hold public office and end discrimination.

In 1913 following discussions, International Women's Day was transferred to 8 March and this day has remained the global date for International Women’s Day ever since. In the same year, it further spread to other European countries.
