Sonamura, March 25 (TIWN): The grim side of the festival of colours comes out every year with road accidents and physical assaults being reported from different parts of Siphaijala /Gomati /South districts.More than 15 road accidents and six physical assaults were reported on the first day of Holi yesterday. However, this increased to 10 road accidents and 15 physical assaults in the districts on the second day.

"Our emergency response team has attended to several road accidents and physical assaults during the festival. The road accidents in districts involved both two-wheelers and four-wheelers," said a police official. All the victims of road accidents and assaults have been admitted to different hospitals. However, we do not have any reports of any casualty.

It is true that we receive many cases of road accidents and physical assaults during festivals and this Holi is no different. While some of the patients have been discharged, some are still undergoing treatment in our hospital.“Police have also penalized many for drink driving. More than 125 booked  individuals in different places of the districts drink driving," said police (traffic) unit.

During festivals in particular we see many people become unruly and violate rules. It is becoming a social issue now. This is a dangerous trend as they may harm themselves and others this way.
