AGARTALA, March 24 (TIWN): Prime Minister Narendra Modi promises which he made that his government accorded high priority to turn India’s erstwhile “Look East” policy into an “Act East” policy is proved after the Land-locked state has marked dimensions of new development in the state to such extent.

The Indian government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is keen to develop all types of connectivity’s with all neighbouring countries, including Bangladesh, to boost trade, economy and people-to-people relations.

Agartala on Wednesday became India's third internet gateway after Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bangladeshi Premier Sheikh Hasina inaugurated an internet connectivity project between the two South Asian neighbours.

After Chennai and Mumbai, Agartala is now India's third internet gateway.

The leasing of the internet bandwidth from Akhaura in Bangladesh to Agartala, apart from helping the people of Tripura to avail more reliable internet connectivity, will also improve internet speed in the entire northeastern region.

India's BSNL has leased 10 GB bandwidth of Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company Limited from its Cox's Bazar internet port.

This will also enable Bangladesh telecom operators to effectively monetise their already existing infrastructure.

It has only become possible due to the intervention of the Modi led BJP government at the central.  Modis look east policy has ushered success and development in the state.

On the one hand Tripura government has also started supplying 100MW power to Bangladesh.

The Centre in consultation with the Tripura government had decided to sell 100MW power after the Bangladesh government allowed free transhipment of heavy turbines for the 726.6MW Palatana thermal power plant.

Reportedly, The 100 MW power is dispatched to Bangladesh from Suryamaninagar power sub-station at the outskirts of Agartala and for transmission of 100 MW power, the works on transmission lines is completed on 400 KV double circuit transmission lines. About 143 towers are set up for 47 kilometer long transmission lines up to South Comilla of Bangladesh. About Rs 250 crore is utilized to complete the transmission lines.

However, Tripura will see another dimension of development with the commence ment of the BG passengers service in the state.

After years of struggling, the BG train has ultimately made its entry in the railway map of the country.

With the successful trial run of the BG train to Agartala railway station has paved the way for the development of the transportation and connectivity in the state.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India's erstwhile "Look East" policy into an "Act East" policy has made this much awaited dream successful for the landlocked Tripura.

It is to be mentioned here that the ruling government under its regime of years did not take any initiative to look into the development of the transportation and communication facility of the state.

After entering office six months ago, central government has moved with a great sense of priority and speed to turn the 'Look East Policy' into 'Act East Policy’ to speed up the development work progress for the landlocked state of Tripura.
