AGARTALA, March 10 (TIWN): The Pradesh Congress is all scheduled to file nomination of candidate for the ensuing loan seat of Rajya Sabha election in Tripura. A source confirmed that the Congress will file nomination of candidate on Friday for the Rajya Sabha election.

The Congress has decided to put up a candidate for the Rajya Sabha elections for one seat; after the Election Commission announced a fresh date for election on March 21. However, the preference is for the Birajit’s blued eyed boy, the leader of North district Jotirmoy Nath. The source further said that congress candidate will file nomination on Friday at Assembly building.

The congress president Birajit Sinha has prepared a panel of 5 candidates to file nomination for the election on Friday at Assembly.

It is to be mentioned here that despite of knowing that the Rajya Sabha seat will be claimed by the CPI-M candidates Congress has taken this step just to prove that they are not into alliance with CPI-M in the state.  Only on the hope of cross voting congress will be filing nomination of candidate for the Rajya Sabha Election.

Reportedly, the Tripura wing of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has rejected suggestions that it intends to form an alliance with the Congress Party before the forthcoming assembly elections in West Bengal.

CPI-M state secretary Bijan Dhar in the last press meet described Congress Party as a political institution of ‘monopolists, landlords and capitalists’.

Pushing the ball in the court on Congress, CPI-M has kept the door open for the Congress and added that at present alliance with Congress is not required but may be necessary in the future to fight ‘upcoming fascist forces’.

However, it is to be mentioned here that Election for the single Rajya Sabha seat from Tripura has been announced by the election commission will be held on March 21, 2016.

The election commission issued the notification and according to the circular published by the election commission of India the seat of Rajya Sabha from Tripura will fall vacant on April 2, this year, when the tenure of the incumbent member Jharna Das Baidya will expire.

According to Election Commission announcement a formal notification for the election issued on March 4, the last date for filing of nomination is March 11, 2016. The nomination papers will be scrutinised on March 12 and the last date for withdrawal is March 14, 2016.
