AGARTALA, March 9 (TIWN): Along with the nation, Tripura on Wednesday observed the No Smoking Day at Sukanta Academy.
To the mark the day, a state level awareness programme has been organized to aware the people about the disadvantages of smoking.
The programme was organized with the initiatives of the National Tobacco Control programme and Health and Family welfare Department.
It is to be mentioned here that the day is being observed every year, in order to encourage the world to quite the habit of smoking. The main aim of the day is to spread awareness among the mass to be cautious about the health related issues and to avoid harmful and addicted ingredients.
During the programme, it has been mentioned that people should avoid the consumption of tobacco through cigarettes and through any other modes. Besides, the people were also urged to get rid from the bad habit of smoking.
It has been mentioned that the first effect of smoking starts with coughing and throat irritation accompanied with bad breath and bad smelling clothes. This bad habit also leads to patchy skin and discolouration of teeth.
With the time goes on, more health problems like heart disease, bronchitis, pneumonia, stroke, and many types of cancer, out of which, oral cancer being quite common.
However, smoking is among the biggest cause of premature death of any addicted person. It is one of the major causes for heart diseases, ling cancer and others.
During the programme, Additional Director Dr. N Darlong, Dr. Babul Das, CMO of West district Dr. Gautam Debnath, PRO Parijat Datta and others were present at the programme.
