AGARTALA, March 6 (TIWN) : Election for the single Rajya Sabha seat from Tripura has been announced by the election commission will be held on March 21, 2016.

The election commission issued the notification on Friday and according to the circular published by the election commission of India the seat of Rajya Sabha from Tripura will fall vacant on April 2, this year, when the tenure of the incumbent member Jharna Das Baidya will expire.

According to Election Commission announcement a formal notification for the election issued on March 4, the last date for filing of nomination is March 11, 2016. The nomination papers will be scrutinised on March 12 and the last date for withdrawal is March 14, 2016.

Till today no nomination paper has been submitted. CPM state committee meeting started today to finalize the candidate for the Rajya Sabha election. In Tripura Assembly the left front has 50 MLAs and the opposition have only 10 MLAs, in that case left front candidate would win the election.
