AGARTALA, March 3 (TIWN): West District Tripura Level seminar on prevention and control of animal disease has been organized at Matangini Pritilata Auditorium on Thursday.

During the programme, Animal Resource Development Department has urged the farmers to provide vaccination to the animals.

Besides, they have urged to take special care of the animals and to provide vaccination to the animals.

The seminar has been mainly organized to educate the farmers of the state so that they can take care of the animals for better production and to take special care of the animals.

Animal Resource Development minister Aghore Debbarma also spoke on several issues related to the safety of the domestic animals.

The seminar also discussed on the issues like prevention and control of animal diseases, prevention and control of poultry and duck diseases, pig rearing management, rearing feeding, breeding and management of cattle, feed and fodder production issues were also discussed.

Most of the poor people in rural areas of our State are dependent on mixed crop-livestock farming system for their livelihood. Animal Resources Development Department thus plays a major role in supplementing family income and generating gainful employment in the villages, particularly among the landless laborers, small and marginal farmers and especially women.

It is pertinent to mention here that employment opportunities in traditional agriculture sector are shrinking rapidly and there is virtually no scope for employment of rural unskilled youths in capital intensive industrial units. On the other hand, demands for milk, meat, egg & other livestock related products are growing exponentially due to population explosion, high GDP growth, growing urbanization and change in the food habits of the middle & upper strata of the society. Animal Husbandry and Dairy sectors therefore have the seminal potential to open up new vistas for large scale employment generation.
